Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly held a press conference on Wednesday, announcing that the Canadian government will airlift Canadian citizens and residents caught in the Israel-Gaza conflict from Tel Aviv later this week.

Furthermore, Joly confirmed the death of two Canadians, adding that another is "presumed" to be dead and that three others are missing.

The ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, following Hamas’ unprecedented surprise attack on Israel over the weekend, has left roughly 1,900 dead in both places.

"Israeli and Palestinian civilians deserve to live in peace and safety, with their human rights, human and human rights respected and with dignity. Canada will always work with this in mind," Joly said about the federal government's stance on the unfolding conflict.

Regarding potential Canadian hostages, Joly did not confirm or deny, claiming she did not want to "put [any] lives in danger," adding that Canada will be sending a team of experts to support the chief negotiator of hostages in Israel.
