Addressing the media in Toronto, Ont., on Thursday, Ontario housing minister Steve Clark said that he was “here to accept responsibility” following a scathing report from the integrity commissioner that found the government’s process of removing land from the protected area for development was deceptive.

“I want to make it very clear to Ontarians that I'm sorry that we didn't do a better job and that I personally didn't do a better job in terms of the oversight and putting a plan in place to create that trust and to regain that trust,” Clark said, but did not say that he would resign.

John Fraser from the Ontario Liberal Party and Mike Schreiner from the Ontario Green each stepped up to the podium afterwards and respectively called for Clark’s resignation, saying that there was “no consequence” and that the $8.3 billion scandal is “not about building homes.”

Earlier in the day, Premier Doug Ford doubled down on his Greenbelt plan and stood by Clark, saying that the minister “has a tough job and his goal is to continue building homes.”
