Ontario Housing Minister Paul Calandra introduced new legislation on Monday that he said would restore lands removed from the Greenbelt.

The controversial decision in November 2022 sparked a backlash, and led to an investigation by the RCMP. Calandra said the legislation would also enhance protections of the Greenbelt to an “unprecedented level.”

During a heated exchange following the announcement, Calandra declined to say whether his predecessor Steve Clark would be reprimanded for overseeing the controversial decision.

Calandra also said as part of legislation restoring lands to the Greenbelt, the Ontario government would be protected from liability for the Greenbelt decision.
