Ontario has hit pause on giving first doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine amid increased instances of an extremely rare and potentially fatal blood clotting linked to the shot. Although the risk of the rare side effect in the province was initially believed to be around 1 in 125,000 a month ago, health officials now say it is 1 in 60,000.

The decision also comes after Alberta made a similar move, but primarily because of the vaccine's dwindling supply - with about 8,400 shots left in the province - compared to the growing number of Pfizer and Moderna doses coming in.

Eric Sorensen reports on the growing uncertainty and the evolving science around the vaccine.
