Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the COVID-19 data is showing the province has likely begun to turn the corner on the Omicron driven fifth wave.

Hinshaw also stated that she agrees with her colleagues in other provinces that it's time to start planning and moving towards a more endemic approach to the pandemic.

"We cannot prevent all negative outcomes from COVID, and we must be ready to respond to new information," Hinshaw stated.

Hinshaw also mentioned that the use of restrictions cannot continue in the long term once the risk of overwhelming the heath system has passed.

There were 1,584 patients in Alberta hospitals with COVID-19, with 112 of those patients in the ICU.
