Alberta Health Services president, Verna Yiu, joined the province's daily COVID-19 update on Friday, admitting that AHS continues to plan for all scenarios.

Yiu admitted that additional beds and mobile units would be part of those plans, amid the second wave of the pandemic.

Earlier in the week, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said they had admitted the provincial government is considering setting up more field hospitals as part of its COVID-19 “contingency plan,” and has asked the Canadian Red Cross for help with that.

Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw went on to announce that the province had identified 1,828 additional cases of COVID-19 in the province. Alberta also saw another 15 deaths on Friday, bringing the death toll from coronavirus to 590. Hinshaw also announced that the positivity rate in Alberta has reached the double digits at 10.5 per cent.
