COVID-19: Alberta confirms first case of Omicron variant found in province | FULL

Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed on Tuesday that the province had identified the first confirmed case of the Omicron variant.

The case was confirmed in returning traveller from Nigeria and the Netherlands according to Hinshaw.

Hinshaw also stated the traveller was asymptomatic at the time of testing and has not left quarantine since their arrival.

Alberta identified 238 new cases of COVID-19 over the previous 24-hours.

There were 434 people in hospital being treated for COVID-19 on Tuesday, including 81 in the ICU.

The province also reported six addition COVID-19 related deaths.
