Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced tightened COVID-19 health measures on Tuesday amid growing cases, with many among the variants of concern.

Kenney announced that the province was returning to Step 1 of the relaunch strategy.

Starting Wednesday at midnight, retail businesses will have lower capacity limits,
dropping from 25 per cent capacity to 15 per cent.

Fitness facilities will only be allowed one-on-one training sessions that must be by appointment. Group fitness classes are not allowed.

Libraries will not be allowed to open, and adult theatrical practicing and performances are not allowed.

Starting Friday at noon, in-person dining in restaurants is prohibited. Outdoor patios will be allowed to open.

There is no change to personal services.

Indoor social gatherings remain banned and outdoor get-togethers can have no more than 10 people.

Alberta reported 931 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the total active cases to 10,809, which marks a 27 per cent jump in the last week, Kenney said.

Hospitalizations rose to 328, with 76 people being treated in ICUs.
