U.K. Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Monday said the country has secured five million doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine should it be approved. Moderna said Monday its vaccine appears to be 94.5 per cent effective, according to preliminary data from an ongoing study.

“Should this latest vaccine be approved, the doses would be available from spring next year,” Hancock said.

Hancock also commented on Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s self-isolation after a meeting with an MP who tested positive for COVID-19.

“The prime minister going into self-isolation is an absolutely clear demonstration that everybody, no matter who you are, needs to follow the rules," he said. "If you're asked by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate, that it is absolutely vital that you do. The prime minister is demonstrating that through his personal leadership in following those rules.”
