Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, the co-chairman of Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, laid out on Thursday the latest modelling data for the province, showing COVID-19 cases are down and indicating that Ontario "is making progress."

Brown said "we're doing better" than two weeks ago, citing a decrease in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 but warned that "deaths will continue to mount for a long time."

Modelling data also suggests the mutated versions of the coronavirus, which are "clearly" spreading in the community, will likely be the dominant version of the virus in March.

although the overall cases are down across Ontario, Dr. Brown said the uptick in cases reported Thursday is concerning, and the new variants give less room to relax.

Ontario reported 2,093 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 262,463.
