The three major Canadian party leaders attended a Tuesday vigil in London, Ont. for a Muslim family targeted in what police said was a premeditated anti-Muslim attack that left four members of the family dead, and one child injured.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed to take action to fight Islamophobia saying “Islamophobia is real,” and adding the whole Canadian community mourns with the Muslim community.

Official opposition leader Erin O’Toole called for commitment to work across party lines “to end hatred and violence.”

O’Toole said the lone surviving boy is looking to the nation, his nation, for action.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh told Muslim women not to “cower in fear” from wearing their hijabs and to be proud of who they are.

Singh called on all political leaders not to use Islamophobia for political gains and to take steps to combat online hate.

The victims have been identified as Salman Afzaal, 46, his 44-year-old wife Madiha Salman, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and Afzaa's 74-year-old mother. Nine-year-old Fayez Afzaal suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
