A public service and prayer session was held Saturday for the Muslim family police say were targeted in a premeditated attack that left a nine-year-old boy in hospital and his sister, parents and grandmother dead in London, Ont. earlier this week.A private funeral was also held earlier in the day.

"Last Sunday evening, four fountains of sweetness were taken away," said Ali Islam, the maternal uncle of one of the victims, Madiha Salman. "Three generations taken too soon. The loss to our family immense. In schools, universities, nursing homes across southwestern Ontario, there are hundreds of lucky people who felt the gently, unassuming characters of our loved ones."

The victims have been identified as Salman Afzaal, 46, his 44-year-old wife Madiha, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and Afzaa's 74-year-old mother, Talat. Nine-year-old Fayez Afzaal suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Pakistan's ambassador to Canada Raza Bashir Tarar also spoke at the service, saying all of Pakistan stands "shoulder to shoulder" with those who lost their loved ones. The victims were scheduled to be buried at the Islamic Cemetery of London in a private event after the public ceremony.
