Speaking in Ottawa on Thursday, Canadian ministers responded to Auditor General Karen Hogan's earlier release of reports that highlighted gaps and delays across the federal public service.

“We thank the Auditor General for her review and recommendations. We know that we have more work to do on system modernization and we are committed to continue delivering high quality services to Canadians as we undergo this transformation and are tackling the challenges head on,” Treasury Board President Anita Anand said.

Immigration minister Marc Miller added that an online portal for permanent residency applications for refugees will be opening. He said Canada is the “number one destination” for people fleeing their countries and that a record-breaking number of people were trying to come to Canada this year.

Hogan’s auditor general reports found that leaders are leaving refugees behind amid immigration backlogs, lags in addressing public safety and workplace racism, and that Canadians lack access to new antibiotics.
