Members of the Canadian Armed Forces are being mobilized in the Northwest Territories on Tuesday as wildfires threaten the capital and other communities, and hundreds of people have been airlifted to safety.

The military is expected to send a helicopter and Twin Otter airplane along with 124 soldiers, with 100 set to help with firefighting tasks such as dousing hot spots and clearing areas and the other 24 coordinating logistics.

Meanwhile, the military has been helping to airlift residents out of the Northwest Territories after wildfires closed evacuation routes.

Sarah Komadina has more on the wildfire situation and the efforts to get residents to safety.
