The Canadian military is mobilizing to help B.C. fight against fires that have already burned thousands of square kilometres of forest in the province, already making this the worst fire season the province has ever seen. To aid in fire fighting efforts, emergency preparedness minister Bill Blair approved a request for federal assistance Friday night. But still early into the wildfire season, there's seemingly no respite from the smoke or the fires anytime soon. Megan King has the details.

In Winnipeg, a determined group of protestors remain defiant in the face of a court order to halt a blockade at the entrance to the Brady Road landfill. While the injunction to clear the roadway went into effect Friday evening, so far police have not moved in to enforce the court order. Mike Drolet is in Winnipeg with the latest.

The Canadian government is concerned about the fate of some of the thousands of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan, who escaped out of fear of arrest or even death at the hands of the Taliban who now rule Afghanistan. But now, Pakistani authorities are questioning their right to be in the country, leading Afghan nationals to live in fear of arrest and deportation. Shogofa Danish talks with some of those refugees.

With inflation driving up the cost of just about everything, it's more important than ever to have things that last. But whether it's phones or computers, Canadians likely have a harder time getting products repaired these days. In a story originally featured on The New Reality, Krista Hessey looks at what some see as a broken system for maintaining what items one owns and the growing movement to fix it.

And finally, Frank Whiteley, a 59-year-old Halifax man, reunited with a group of paramedics and a bystander who were quick to respond when he began suffering a cardiac arrest on a bench on Quinpool Road in June. As Vanessa Wright reports, paramedics say situations like this are a reminder of the importance of knowing how to provide basic medical assistance.
