Fans of Morocco's World Cup team shed tears and disappointment over the team's semifinal loss on Wednesday against France, but many also applauded the team's journey, becoming the first Arab and African country to make it this far in the FIFA tournament.

People were seen watching the game not only in Moroccan cities, but in Gaza, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, as well as in Qatar itself where the tournament was being played.

"I am sad, I am really sad," said Algerian citizen Abdou. "They played well, but missed a lot of opportunities."

While many went home disappointed, some fans of the team expressed their disappointment by clashing with police in Brussels, Belgium. People tossed fireworks and other objects at officers, before police responded with tear gas and a water cannon. Reporters on the ground saw police detain several of the fans, but said the clashes were brief and caused no serious damage.
