Argentina fans erupted into celebrations after they won a 3-0 victory over 2018 runners-up Croatia in the first World Cup semifinal on Tuesday, setting up a showpiece meeting with France or Morocco on Sunday.

Fans sang of Messi and the late Argentinian soccer legend Diego Maradona as they celebrated the win from Buenos Aires to Lusail, which houses the 2022 World Cup stadium that was packed with nearly 90,000 fans.

“We started off on the wrong foot, but now we’re in the World Cup final. It’s crazy. Nothing explains it. It’s something that you can only explain with Messi,” Santino Leginas from Mendoza said.

Considered by many to be the world’s best, Messi now has a chance to put behind him defeat in the 2014 World Cup final and fill the only blank on his career resume.
