Representatives of Sudan's rival factions are meeting for ceasefire negotiations in the Saudi city of Jeddah. International mediators are hoping to secure a lasting peace even as fighting continues in Sudan's capital Khartoum. The conflict between the Sudanese army and the rival Rapid Support Forces paramilitary is now entering its fourth week. The conflict seemed to erupt suddenly last month but was years in the making. DW looks at the factors that led to the outbreak of violence and whether the international community may have contributed to the problems that led to war.
