As question period resumed on Monday, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre took aim at both the Liberals and NDP on the issue of foreign election meddling, after multiple reports alleged the Chinese government interfered in the 2019 and 2021 elections. Poilievre suggested the NDP was helping to block senior officials from testifying on the issue.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc defended the steps the Liberal government has taken to protect against election interference, including setting up an independent panel of senior public servants to investigate the issue. He also said he will appear before the Procedure and House Affairs Committee later in the week.
Poilievre also criticized the government over licenses given to two B.C. companies that said they were allowed to sell cocaine but later retracted those statements.
Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett defended what she said were “very strict rules” for obtaining licenses for a controlled substance, saying such licenses are only given for scientific or medical purposes.
