A Canadian studying in Europe, who was just blocks away from where a gunman opened fire in Vienna, Austria on Monday, described the chaotic scene in the aftermath of the attack.

Amanda Burns told Global News she had traveled to Vienna from France just a day earlier, worried about the recent attack in Nice.

At least two people are dead – including one of the assailants – and 15 are wounded in what authorities have described as a “terrorist attack” in the Austrian capital.

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said the army had been asked to guard key locations in the city as hundreds of heavily armed police hunted for the gunmen.

In the wake of the attack, the Canadian government has advised citizens currently in Austria to remain indoors and contact friends or family to confirm their well-being.
