White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Thursday delivered a statement saying the administration condemns the violence that took place at the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday, when pro-Trump supporters stormed the building.

She called it "appalling, reprehensible and antithetical to the American way," and said the president and administration is calling for those who broke the law to be prosecuted to the full extent. She also said they grieve the loss of life that occurred.

McEnany said the First Amendment guarantees people's rights to peacefully assemble, but what was seen in Washington, D.C., "was not that." The press secretary added that what people saw was "violent rioters undermining the legitimate First Amendment rights of the many thousands who came to peacefully have their voices heard."
