Following a day of violent, pro-Donald Trump demonstrations on Wednesday, where participants stormed Washington D.C.’s Capitol buildings, U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence condemned the events, calling it a “dark day.” Pence thanked law enforcement for quelling the violence and securing the Capitol again.

“We condemn the violence that took place here in the strongest possible terms,” he said.

A woman who was shot during the riots has also been confirmed dead.

While the vice-president opened up his remarks at the reconvening of Senate to certify Joe Biden’s election win, President Trump has yet to condemn the events, telling supporters to “go home” and that he “loves” them. As a result of his rhetoric, his Twitter account became locked for 12 hours, with certain tweets being removed for fear of inciting more violence.
