Washington, D.C. Metropolitan police officers on Friday recounted their experiences during the U.S. Capitol riot, which saw pro-Trump supporters storm the building on Jan. 6, saying they were beaten and had stun guns used against them by some of the rioters as they attempted to protect the Capitol and the lawmakers and staff inside.

Officer Christina Laury said they tried to hold off the rioters amid a torrent of tear gas, bear mace and other chemical agents and physical items thrown at them, such as batons and flag poles.

"It puts you out of service for at least 10 to 15 minutes until you can open your eyes again," she said in reference to being sprayed with bear mace.

Her fellow officer Daniel Hodges, who was captured on video being pinned between two doors by the rioters, said he had his mask ripped off and baton taken away. But he added that if it wasn't his job, he would've done it "for free."
