U.S. FBI director Christopher Wray on Tuesday testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the agency's preparations ahead of the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, amid questions whether the bureau adequately communicated with other law enforcement agencies about the potential violence that day.

In his testimony, Wray said said that he was "appalled" by the attack on the Capitol building on Jan. 6 and the agency viewed it as an act of "domestic terrorism." He said through digital media tips from the public, they had identified hundreds of suspects and made more than 270 arrests to date.

The director also pushed back on questions of whether "fake Trump protesters" organized the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, saying those involved included militia violent extremists and white supremacists. He added they had not to date seen evidence those who "subscribe to Antifa" had involvement in the riot.

He also was questioned about a Jan. 5 report from the FBI's Norfolk, Va., field office warning of online posts foreshadowing a "war" in Washington the following day. The former chief of the Capitol Police and others have said the information wasn't flagged for them and was only sent in an email. Wray says he did not see the report until after the insurrection but it was shared properly.
