UK braced for freezing weather and snow

The Met Office has issued an Amber alert for cold weather with Arctic air set to plunge across the country.

The Met Office's level three weather alert begins at 6pm on Wednesday and lasts until 9am on Monday 12 December.

Forecasters say overnight temperatures could plunge to -8C in parts of the UK and not rise above zero in the day time.
