January normally brings rain to British Columbia, but the province has been hit with more snow and freezing rain.

A big winter storm hit the province's South Coast and Vancouver Island overnight, making the morning commute treacherous for many drivers on Thursday. Residents were also advised to stay home and avoid all non-essential travel, if possible.
