Officials from multiple countries spoke on Monday about recent evacuations conducted of personnel and nationals from Sudan amid the ongoing conflict in the African country.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the decision to suspend operations at their embassy and evacuate personnel was among the most "difficult" decisions a secretary of state has to make.
"But my first priority is the safety of our people. And I determined that the deteriorating security conditions in Khartoum pose an unacceptable risk to keeping our team there at this time," he told reporters.
French President Emmanuel Macron said they were organizing one more operation to rescue people from the country, but so far they had transported more than 400 people. He said they were working with the U.S., European Union members, Germany and other countries to help citizens leave the country if they wish to.
Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland also spoke about the evacuations and ongoing conflict, saying the government was "closely" following the conflict and would work with friends and allies to continue its work to evacuate those in the country.
