Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, joins The Morning Show to talk about holidays, gender equality and her 16-day campaign to end gender-based violence.

Several helplines for women experiencing violence at home are reporting dramatic increases in calls since public health measures aimed at fighting the spread of COVID-19 came into effect last spring.

The United Nations has called violence against women and girls a “shadow pandemic” as the COVID-’19 crisis fuels social isolation and tensions caused by concerns over health, safety and financial security.

Trudeau received international headlines earlier this year when she reveled she had tested positive for COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic. As a result of her diagnosis, she went into self-isolation while Justin Trudeau, with whom she had been in contact, went into isolation himself at Rideau Cottage.
