Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said Tuesday the government was "getting to work right away" after it secured its fourth majority mandate in the provincial election the night before.
Moe said he would be setting up his cabinet, meeting with his party's caucus and that COVID-19 remained top of mind among the most pressing issues for the province.
He said after the province saw 58 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, it was time for people to reevaluate their daily conduct, including whether they’re wearing masks and abiding by public gathering limits. He added as Christmas approaches for some, they should pay “very close attention” to their conduct.
The premier said that in addition to the federal carbon tax, the province would be looking at another shared area with the federal government regarding taxation. He said they would look at how to further enhance autonomy to take care of themselves without separating from the rest of the country, amid questions about provincial independence.
While the full election results won’t be known until the mail-in ballots have been counted, the Saskatchewan Party was leading or elected in 50 ridings as of Tuesday, with the NDP winning 11 seats.
