Dormant for decades in Hawaii, the world's largest volcano, Mauna Loa, has been erupting for days on the island chain's biggest island, sending plumes of ash into the air and vertical streams of lava 60 metres high.

Though no communities are in harm's way, the eruption is just one of two volcanic events underway in Hawaii.

Thirty kilometres away, Kilauea is also spewing lava and has been for more than a year — creating a rare dual eruption.
