Hawaii's Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano, began erupting on Sunday for the first time in nearly 40 years, ending its longest dormant period in recorded history.
Aerial video showed red-hot lava flowing down its slopes and ash spewing into the sky as its eruption continued.
The lava is contained within the summit and does not threaten Hawaiians living downslope for now, the U.S. Geological Service (USGS) said.
