Human rights groups in Peru say there have been cases of police brutality during recent protests.
Demonstrations have been taking place since former President Martin Vizcarra was impeached earlier this month.
A United Nations human rights mission is now in Peru talking to families of victims and investigating whether human rights were violated. Amnesty International says police fired deadly ammunition and beat protesters unnecessarily.
Police deny they used excessive force or shot metal pellets at protesters, but doctors say otherwise.
Interim President Francisco Sagasti says any crimes will not go unpunished.

Al Jazeera’s Mariana Sanchez reports from Lima.
