Speaking to media on Monday, Halifax Fire Deputy Chief David Meldrum said "this fire is not under control," adding that it has "not spread appreciably."

He also said more than 100 firefighters are currently trying to extinguish the flames.

RCMP's Jeff Christie, the officer in charge of Halifax detachment, thanked the public during the press conference for their support amid the "chaotic" situation in the province as wildfires burn. He also pleaded for people to co-operate with firefighters and first responders during the situation.

The forest fire began as a call on Juneberry Lane in Upper Tantallon, N.S. on Sunday.

By now, the out-of-control blaze has destroyed homes, forced the evacuation of thousands of residents, and led to a local state of emergency for the Tantallon and Hammonds Plains areas.
