Halifax Mayor Mike Savage is warning people to stay away from sightseeing in areas of Nova Scotia devastated by wildfires.

“I would really encourage people who don’t live in the area – this is not the time to go sightseeing, you know, based on the misfortune of other people,” he said.

“It’s not a tourist zone,” he added.

During the peak of the Tantallon fire, more than 16,000 people were asked to evacuate but after returning to their homes, residents say they’ve been disappointed by the presence of onlookers.

Skye Bryden-Blom has the story.
