RCMP officials are expected to provide an update on Monday regarding the four people who went missing during the severe flooding that swept through Nova Scotia on Saturday.

Three of five people in a vehicle escaped flood waters, but two children did not and were deemed unaccounted for. In another incident, a man and youth were unaccounted for while two other passengers in their vehicle were able to get to safety.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said three months of rain fell in less than 24 hours.

"It came fast, and it came furious. And it's left a mark in many ways," he said.

In an earlier update from the Halifax Regional Municipality on Saturday, residents were told to avoid driving as several roads were washed out and as cars abandoned on streets and highways were creating dangerous driving conditions.
