West Africa is in the midst of a wave of military coups which have swept through the region playing havoc with many long-standing international relationships.

Just yesterday in Burkina Faso, the military government announced they had repelled a challenge from within their own ranks.

In Niger, Mohammed Bazoum, the elected president, remains under arrest after being deposed by his own soldiers.

The country’s new leaders are seeking to consolidate their position.

They’ve said there will eventually be elections but there’s no timetable in place.
