Supporters of a coup in Niger ransacked and set fire to the headquarters of President Mohamed Bazoum's ruling party in the capital Niamey on Thursday after the army command declared its backing for the takeover carried out by soldiers of the presidential guard.
Hundreds of people burned vehicles and buildings while some looted motorbikes, chairs, and other supplies.
Coup supporters waved Russian flags and chanted anti-French slogans, echoing a growing wave of resentment towards former colonial power France and its influence in the Sahel region.
