NHS under pressure as strikes, waiting lists and seasonal illness squeeze the service

Junior doctors are due to take strike action from the 20th to the 23rd of December and from the 3rd to the 9th of January - which will be the longest walkout in NHS history. Hospitals say the extra money to find cover must be found from existing budgets.

Thousands of patients may see their elective operations cancelled over Christmas - as our Health Correspondent Ashish Joshi reports.
