A fire broke out at a partially decommissioned railway trestle in Richmond, causing heavy smoke near the south end of the Oak Street Bridge on Thursday. The plume of smoke was visible from across Metro Vancouver.

Video footage showed the flames engulfing the historic Marpole Railroad Bridge, originally constructed in 1902.

Due to the smoke, Metro Vancouver issued an Air Quality Bulletin for all areas of the region, advising residents to move indoors if they experience adverse effects.

Global's Jordan Armstrong reports.
