It is unusual for temperatures to dip so low on B.C.'s South Coast that ponds and lakes freeze, and although the Mother Nature-made skating rinks may be tempting, venturing onto the ice can pose significant risks.
The City of Surrey is warning the public about the dangers of thin ice as more and more people venture out on seemingly frozen lakes and ponds to walk, play hockey and skate.
