Members of Canada's House of Commons observed a moment of silence in Ottawa on Wednesday, to honour the victims at a Montreal-area daycare following a bus crash that took the lives of two children and injured at least six others in Laval, Que. Following the incident, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked what his government will do to support those affected.

He said while nothing could "erase" the families' and community's pain, his government will "be there" to support them in the days and years to come, providing no additional details.

Earlier in the day, Quebec’s emergency services said some suffered more serious injuries and were taken to hospitals in the area. Authorities did not release the ages of the dead and injured children.

Police said a 51-year-old man who was driving the bus was arrested. He was still being questioned as of the early afternoon, but police say he is facing charges of homicide and dangerous driving.
