United Nations (UN) inspectors arrived in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine on Wednesday to inspect the nuclear plant housed in Enerhodar, which has seen shelling in recent weeks, raising concerns of a potential nuclear accident.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief Rafael Grossi said Wednesday that the aim of their mission was to prevent a nuclear accident and try to stabilize the situation after weeks of shelling. He said they intend to inspect the plant, calling the visit a "technical mission."

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said the inspection was a step towards “demilitarizing” the site.

But even as IAEA inspectors were set to arrive, Russia's Defence Ministry claimed Kyiv had "continued provocations" and were trying to "disrupt the work of the IAEA mission," saying during shelling on Tuesday, a shell hit a building housing the solid radioactive waste processing facility. On Wednesday, the administrative building in Enerhodar also was hit.

Russian-installed officials in the area suggested the IAEA visit might last only one day, while IAEA and Ukrainian officials said it would last longer.
