United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday, alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called for the demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in southeastern Ukraine.

Guterres said any damage to the plant “would be suicide” and called for military equipment and personnel to be withdrawn from the site.

Echoing Guterres’ comments, Zelenskyy called for Russia to withdraw its troops from the area and “without a doubt, stop the shelling.”

Zelenskyy also said Ukraine has agreed to the parametres of a mission by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
