A horse and a pony in Monterey County, Calif. were among those rescued this week in southern parts of the state after heavy rains pounded the region, causing mudslides that led to damaged roads and flooded homes.
Fremont Fire Department leaped into action to help lift the animals out of the mud and take them to safety.
The rain that hit the region was the result of a winter storm system that hit late Thursday. Parts of Orange County, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles County were also impacted. After the Bond fire last year, soil in the Orange County area was weakened resulting in the mudslides. People in other counties were also advised to evacuate in advance. Flash flood watches remain in effect for parts of southern California.
