'Government is using Gary Lineker to distract from serious failures' says shadow home secretary

The TV presenter has been embroiled in a row over impartiality by comparing the language used to launch a new government asylum policy with 1930s Germany.

Yvette Cooper said she was concerned the focus on Lineker was being used by the government to "find someone to blame".
