BBC chief defends decision to take Gary Lineker off air

The BBC's director-general has said he "did the right thing" by asking Gary Lineker to step away from Match of the Day following his criticism of the government's immigration policy.

Speaking on the BBC, Tim Davie said "proportionate action" was needed, adding that there were "no easy answers" and it was "tough to get the balance right".
