BBC director general Tim Davie will not resign over the Gary Lineker row, the broadcaster has reported.

In a sit-down interview with the BBC, he apologised for the disruption to sports programming saying "we are working very hard to resolve this situation".

He added: "Everyone wants to calmly resolve the situation. Gary Lineker’s the best in the business - that's not for debate".
