In our top story: The union representing roughly half the staff of the Canadian Public Service is ready to strike. Talks are taking place weekend between Ottawa and the bargaining units representing workers essential to the basic functioning of the federal government. The union represents everyone from clerks and maintenance workers to Coast Guard search and rescue teams to the people who process passport applications. Job action could even impact the timing of your tax return. Mackenzie Gray reports.

There's been a new blow to the hopes of an eventual transition to democracy in Sudan. Dozens of people have been killed after fierce clashes erupted in the capital of Khartoum on Sunday between the military and a powerful paramilitary force. The army has told civilians to stay inside and there are reports tomorrow will be declared a public holiday for citizens' safety. As Reggie Cecchini explains, the violence is also raising concerns of a wider conflict.

Back in Canada, overdose deaths in western parts of the country are continuing to soar. This week, Alberta quietly released its 2022 data showing while the number of deaths dipped slightly last year, toxic drugs are still killing at least four people every day. Heather Yourex-West reports.

And Canadian hockey fans are primed and ready for the NHL playoffs next week. Three Canadian teams are in the running - all hoping to hold the Stanley Cup when all's said and done. But as Eric Sorensen reports, the spotlight is shining bright on Edmonton.
