The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) national president Chris Aylward announced Monday that if a deal isn't reached with the federal government by Wednesday, Canada's public service workers, notably from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), will go on strike.

“Despite some progress at the bargaining table, our members are frustrated that while negotiations drag on, they continue to fall behind,” he said. “We’ve already been at the table for nearly two years and these workers can’t wait any longer.”

Aylward said last week that an “overwhelming majority” of its members had voted in favour of a strike, adding that Treasury Board workers were in a legal strike position as of Wednesday. But he said the union's desire was to reach a deal with the federal government.

Its division representing 35,000 CRA workers also voted in favour of a strike and was in a legal striking position as of Friday.
