With a fresh wave of Omicron-related COVID-19 restrictions coming into place in many parts of the country, new federal dollars have been earmarked to support struggling businesses and workers left in limbo.
The federal government says it’s expanding eligibility for its $300-per-week worker benefit program. Instead of applying only to those who lost work due to lockdowns, it will now apply in regions where business capacity has been capped at 50 per cent to directly affected workers who’ve lost half or more of their income.
But as Anne Gaviola reports, some say it may be too little, too late.
